What Siding Colors are Trending in Richmond for 2022 and 2023?

August 25, 2022

Siding colors are a relatively easy way to add style and character to your Central Virginia home. Like anything in the housing industry, siding colors are deeply affected by current interior design trends. Owing to the difficulties of the past few years, the trends in interior design have shifted into soothing neutrals and deep, cozy hues. We've broken down some of the most popular trends in siding colors for 2022 so that you can choose the best color for your Richmond home wisely!

Light to Dark Gray:

These dark colors have recently been an incredibly popular choice, making homes look more stately and classic. Ranging in tonality and undertones, gray shades offer versatility and style. You could go dark gray to make quite a statement or meld it into a soft neutral. These colors are also well suited to highlight a variety of architectural styles, including shingle style and traditional board & batten. Whichever shade you choose, grays can complement a variety of color palettes.

Try dark gray if you don't want to go all out with black. Charcoal is an excellent middle ground between light gray and black—it's not as dark as charcoal but not quite as bright as true gray.

Blues:

A new YouGov.com survey conducted in 10 countries across four continents shows that one color – blue – is the most popular across the board. So it should come as no shock that blue remains a trending color in siding. Every shade, from vivid Royal Blue with crisp white trim to light and airy blues, remains trendy in all home types. The rise of the 'grandmillenial,' 'cottagecore,' and 'coastal grandmother' styles have skyrocketed 'blue' as a staple and neutral that go with everything. A true classic, it's easy to see why all shades of blue will continue to be at the forefront of popularity for years to come.

Green:

Green is a soothing color that represents nature. It's also an incredibly popular siding color, so don't be afraid to use it! It's an excellent choice for those looking for something neutral but still has some color. If you're trying to convey calmness and relaxation, green is the way to go!

Green's earth tone looks perfect when surrounded by lush landscaping, making it ideal for those who live in wooded areas. Its calming and natural warmth will give off a tranquil vibe that homeowners will enjoy looking at day in and day out.

White:

Whether using white siding in a modern or traditional setting is always a fantastic choice. White siding is timeless and classic—an option that has never gone out of style and will never go out of style. If you're looking to create a more modern look with your home's exterior design, white siding can give you a crisp, clean look that screams "modern." On the other hand, if you're looking to add warmth and charm to your home's exterior design, white siding will do just that!

White is also a great choice if you're looking for something different from what everyone else has done before. It's not often seen, but it can still stand out while simultaneously staying true to its classic roots!

Taupe

Taupe is a neutral color that can be used to create a soothing, harmonious exterior. It's also an excellent choice to create a cozy home with an inviting atmosphere. Taupe is in between beige and gray and is much cooler than beige. Taupe has pink/purple undertones. This 'cooling' look emphasizes natural and lush landscapes, making the house pop against yards and trees.

The other wonderful thing about Taupe is that because it is so neutral, it is a popular look with most people, helping resale value.

You can be confident that these five siding colors will be topping the list for the next year, as well. However, it is essential to remember that your personal style will always reign supreme when designing your home.
